Thank You For Your Support

BlogAid is now over so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who offered to donate their blog earning from January to help the Tsunami relief efforts. We've had 225 people pledge their support and so far these people have donated $8763.54 in advertising and affiliate earnings to a charity of their choice.

The Asian Earthquake and Tsunami

On the 26th of Dec, 2004 a massive earthquake measuring 9 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of the Indonesian Island of Sumatra. The earthquake caused a devastating Tsunami (tidal wave) which reached from Malaysia in the east all the way west to Africa country of Somalia.

The Problems at Hand

Aid is desperately needed both in the short and long terms. In the short term money is needed to help clothe, feed and provide shelter to the victims of this terrible disaster. Medicine and medical supplies are urgently required to treat the injured, with fresh water and water purification tablets needed to prevent the spread of disease.

In the long term a huge amount of money will be needed to rebuild homes, roads and other basic infrastructure. Indonesia has estimated that it will take around 4 years to rebuild the Northern city of Banda Aceh alone.
